Description

A 'repaint' I did using Instructions for Armada Overload downloaded from Hasbro's official Transformers website, [link] (And Armada Sideswipe for Coop’s hotrod/Megas’s Head)

It’s Megas XLR! He’s a Transformer now! Whoo! :w00t:
Until they FINALLY start showing new episodes of Transformers Energon, Megas XLR is my new favorite Robot cartoon. That show is funny as hell, and anyone who hasn’t seen it should WATCH. It comes on Cartoon Network during its Saturday evening Toonami block, and again on Sunday night before Adult Swim. Even my TF hating Fiancée thinks it’s good. (Mostly because it pokes fun at Transformers and every other Japanese robot show).

For those of you that don’t know what the show’s about, I’ll give a brief synopsis. M.E.G.A.S. is a robot from the faaaaar future, built by Kiva to be the ultimate weapon for the humans against the alien bad guys they’re at war with (forget the name). Kiva’s plan is to use it’s new time travel device to go to the start of the war, where she plans to use it to put an end to it before it even starts. Crap happens, and the robot is damaged and sent to the present instead (along with Kiva and ALL the bad aliens). Enter Coop and Jamie, a couple goof’s that look like high school drop outs. Coop (a grease monkey) finds the damaged robot in a junkyard, fixes it, replacing it’s missing head with his hot rod, and then he soups this bad boy up (all the paint and decals.) turning it into Megas XLR. More stuff happens, and the time thing is broken, so Megas, Kiva, and the bad aliens are all stuck in the present. Kiva finds and joins up with Coop and Jamie (trying to take her robot back, but to no avail, as Coop rebuilt the thing so only he can pilot it). The Coop-piloted Megas XLR then beats the crap out of any and every possible threat, always managing to win (using his years of video game experience and wrestling moves), and destroying his home town EVERY episode, and making fun of just about every robot and godzillaesque cartoon/movie EVER. Great show.

Now, on to the pic. I used Overload because he looks close enough to the Megas to pull it off, and his big blockiness really helps out. I tried finding good pics of Megas to get his spiffy paint decals but they’re NOWHERE to be seen. Good luck finding many good pics of the show. Anyways, I ended up recording an episode from TV and using it as reference. While my decals are quite different, I think they’re a good enough interpretation. (*Note, both mode pics don’t show off the mud flap ‘ladies’ that WOULD be on the back of the vehicle. They’d be on the back of the flaps that cover his hands in vehicle mode.) On the show, Coop’s hotrod is Megas’s new head, but there was just NO good way to do this using TF molds, and I’m not very happy with the pic I have of it. I used Armada Sideswipe for the car, and personally, I like the version with Overloads head much better. (That’s why the ‘hotrod head’ is the small pic)

This was the most graphically intense paint scheme I’ve ever did, and I don’t think I’ll ever try anything like this again. While flames are rather easy to do, it was still pretty damn hard. Over all, I’m very happy with how this turned out. Oh, and I have no idea what Overload’s Minicon/head would be called. Maybe Coopboot or Kivabot. I dunno.
